ACTION ALERT

The Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network (PNGO) calls upon the international community to immediately intervene to stop the Israeli destruction of lives and homes in Rafah in the occupied Gaza Strip. In one of the most intense periods of destruction since the beginning of the Al-Aqsa Intifada, and in the past few days alone the Israeli Occupational forces have destroyed more than 140 homes in Rafah Refugee Camp leaving more than 2,197 homeless Palestinians. Moreover, this continued destruction has led to the killing of 32 Palestinians including children. At the time of writing, tens more Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured as Palestinians in Gaza demonstrated against the recent Israeli atrocities.

PNGO calls upon the international community to take immediate action to stop these atrocities committed by the Israeli military in Rafah and its nearby refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. Governments and international organizations have strongly criticized the Israeli crimes; however, no action has been taken to stop these atrocities.

The international community continues in its failure to intervene to stop Israeli violations of international law in Rafah and its nearby refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. As the international community watches, Israeli occupying forces are continuing their devastation of Rafah and committing grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

As High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention, 191 nation states have an obligation to intervene and stop Israel's violations in the Gaza Strip. While several world leaders have condemned Israeli actions, none of them are taking the moral stand to actively stop these violations.

Israeli Minister of Defense Shaul Mofaz has publicly announced that "Operation Rainbow," Israel's military action in Rafah, will continue as long as necessary. Israeli governmental and military officials have reiterated their intention to continue demolishing Palestinian homes, and the Israeli High Court of Justice has repeatedly permitted state authorities to continue this policy. At a point when it is evident that Israeli authorities consider themselves above the law, the international community must act as is their responsibility. Failure to do so is not merely morally wrong, it is complicity in war crimes.

TAKE ACTION

PNGO calls upon a large mobilization of international public opinion on behalf of the people of Rafah demanding that those with power and responsibility act to end these war crimes can make a difference.

Action Points:

- Immediate intervention to demand the protection of Palestinian civilians and Palestinian homes in Gaza -- particularly in Rafah refugee camp, which is the focus of the current Israeli military operations.

- Friday, March 21, will be a day of solidarity with Rafah. Around the globe organizations and individuals should organize demonstrations in public facilities as well as in diplomatic and federal buildings. This action should continue daily until proper action is taken to stop the genocide.

- A call for governments to unequivocally condemn Israel's recent actions against Palestinian civilians and homes in Gaza.

- Call upon US representatives not to veto the coming Security Council resolution about the situation in Gaza.
