Your Key to Palestine
The Palestinian Initiatives for The Promotoion of Global Dialogue and Democracy

US support for Israel, international silence, and Arab inability to 'act' have all contributed to the tragic collapse of the peace process, and more painfully, to the horrendous killing of Palestinian civilians throughout the past two weeks, let alone since the outbreak of the Intifada in September 2000.

Palestinian disbelief in the international will to protect the Palestinian people is significantly mounting to unprecedented levels; Palestinians feel abandoned by the rest of the world.

In fact, while Ariel Sharon's radical government, now "enriched" by new elements of radicalism (the MIFDAL party), seems bent on fully implementing its campaign of terror against the Palestinians, little is expected from he international community. The inevitable question is: what next for the Palestinians, what next for the Israeli people, and what next for the region at large?

Under the leadership of Ariel Sharon, Israel will continue to isolate itself from the rest of the region by increasing its hostilities against the Palestinian and Arab people. This, in itself, is a reminder of Sharon's victory in taking the region into a 'time travel' back to 1948, the mentality of shortsighted military ideologies, and the absence of Israel's political agenda.

The cornerstone of the peace process (RIP!), the land-for-peace equation, has been completely rejected by Sharon, and the prospects for regional peace and security have been put on the backburner amid Sharon's declared intentions to fragment the Palestinian territories into isolated 'reservations' (or Bantustans), leaving 1.8 million Palestinians in the West Bank to suffer under the harshest conditions of socio-economic strangulation, and completely shattering the prospects of a viable Palestinian state.

For the Palestinians, the legitimate right to resist occupation will continue, for the Israelis the prospects of security and 'legitimacy' will continue to diminish under Sharon, and for the region, the Arab-Israeli conflict will continue, and even intensify, with the US-allocated free hand for Sharon to defy international legality and morality. The consequences for all are tragic!
