Ramallah, 23 September, 2006: The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH), in co-operation with the Centre for the Protection of Democracy in Israel (KESHEV), have started the implementation of the second phase of their joint “Media Monitoring” project, which aims to promote and develop the professional standards and performance of media outlets in both Israel and Palestine.

MIFTAH’s Secretary General, Dr. Lily Feidy, reaffirmed that the tangible success of the project’s initial phase has paved the way for the implementation of the second stage, which will focus on enhancing local media coverage of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and its promotion to meet international standards and practices, with particular emphasise on facts, inquisitive reporting, verification, and transparency in media coverage.

Dr. Feidy also stated that, in addition to the production of in-depth reports and publications concerning media coverage, the second phase of the Media Monitoring project is intended to incorporate training for media professionals in print, radio, and TV.

MIFTAH would like to express its appreciation for the valuable efforts of the European Union, whose support for both the completed and ongoing phases of the project is of great importance to the fulfilment of our mission altogether.
