Re: Maria Amin

Dear Ms. Katya Adler,

MIFTAH (The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy) would like to extend our gratitude for the article you so articulately wrote regarding the 5 year old Maria Amin from Gaza.

By producing such an informative and insightful piece, you have achieved a great accomplishment, namely securing the publication of a Palestinian human interest story in a widely respected global news outlet. There is a tendency in Western press, with the escalating and prevalent political climate in Gaza at the moment, to invariably cast these accounts into obscurity.

It is our hope that other foreign journalists will follow your example and exert more efforts to look beyond the news story to seek out the human one. Although the case of Maria is extremely tragic, it is a comfort to know that journalists such as yourself are adamant in getting her story out, despite the less personal and oftentimes biased angle taken by mainstream Western media.

In conclusion, MIFTAH would like to reiterate our advocacy of your work, commend you on your role in exposing such incidents and your contribution to bringing them to the forefront through the medium of popular, global press. One can hope that by their frequent publication, these issues will finally get the recognition they deserve.

We wish you all the best in your journalistic endeavors and very much pray that you continue to report on the human rights atrocities brought about by political conflict in the occupied territories.

Many thanks,

MIFTAH
