Divine Intervention
By Mary Hughes-Thompson

As a member of the Writers Guild of America who has been actively engaged in working in Hollywood in the Television and Motion Picture industry for over thirty years, I am outraged at the blatant censorship displayed by the Academy in refusing to accept "Divine Intervention" for consideration in this year's Academy Awards.

Your flimsy reasoning is unconvincing, and it is difficult not to suspect political motives for your decision.

I had believed the Academy to be above this kind of political bias, which can only be construed as racist, and I ask that the Academy reconsider its decision to excluse this fine production which has received high praise at the Cannes Film Festival and other international venues.

Sincerely,

Mary Hughes-Thompson
