Ramallah– 9/11/2022 – Within the partnership between the Faculty of Law and the Legal Clinic at the Arab American University in Jenin and Palestine University in the Gaza Strip and part of its Good Governance and Democracy Program and in partnership with UNFPA, MIFTAH held a three-day training on its Anti-Discrimination Index. This is part of the organization’s continued efforts to support Palestinian youth and promote an interactive environment based on the principles of democracy and equality within universities. A group of university students in the West Bank and Gaza Strip were trained on the use of MIFTAH’s web portal to measure discrimination in policies and regulations in Palestinian universities. This will provide information and data that reflect the scale of gender-discriminatory measures at Palestinian universities, in a bid to impact the formulation of gender-responsive public policies supportive of the political participation of young women within universities.

MIFTAH’s three-day workshop for Faculty of Law and Legal Clinic students at the two universities was part of its Anti-Discrimination Index. Students filled in a survey about the index and committed to collecting data from the field.

The training explained the concepts of discrimination, equality, political participation, and concepts related to economic and social rights, in addition to the use of MIFTAH’s Anti-Discrimination Index web portal.

Following this training, the students targeted in the training will begin fieldwork to collect the necessary data to feed into the index. The launch of the Anti-Discrimination Index will include analytical and digital data that will be shared by MIFTAH in dialogue sessions throughout the year with relevant parties and university students.
